Fined on 3 Counts After Raid Last Fall On Hollins St. Hall

Former State Senator Pleads Guilty to Exhibiting Obscene Movie And To Gambling Charge

Pleading guilty to three charges, brought after police made a spectacular raid on a smoker last September 23 at Lithuanian Hall, 851 Hollins Street, Benjamin Fox, former State Senator, today was fined a total of $75 and costs by Judge Eli Frank, in Criminal Court.

Fox, who lives in the 2000 block Presstman street, was charged with the unlawful exhibit of an unlicensed motion picture and with gambling, slot machine charge. He was fined $25 in each case.

Two other men, faced with charges as the result of the raid, also pleaded guilty. David Friedman, 2100 block Wilkens avenue, was fined $5 on each of three charges similar to those against Fox, while James Pertess, 400 block West Fayette street, was $5 and costs on a gambling charge.

Six hundred persons were taken into custody when police raided the smoker on the Hollins street hall. Many of them forfeited their collateral by failing to appear at a Police Court hearing following the raid.
